We are in a never-ending email thread going on two months now with Meta support just trying to get our Instagram Business page to a point where we can use a third-party archive service to capture the data. If I turned it in to my Fiction Writing 305 class, the instructor would have returned it as “not believable to the average person.”

We are tracking a number of other platforms, several of which have interesting, useful features. BlueSky has the direct messaging you mentioned, but seems to have been in test mode for a long time and needs to be easier to join before it can reach a critical mass. Spoutible has added some interesting features, such as collaborative posting. “Post” is good for article curating and original piece publishing, though Substack is farther along on the latter. So far, no leader has emerged, and the top floor is not yet sold on Threads.
